Meal Periods
Designated time for meals—The Department of Labor designates that bona fide meal periods are not work time; their purpose is to relieve an employee from his or her work duties in order to eat a regular meal. A period of no less than 20 minutes—preferably at least 30 minutes--is to be available to the employee. Compensation is not applicable during mealtime.
