Professional Employees

Professional Employee:  An individual who receives earnings on a salary basis; a salary of at least $455 per week; this salary does not include board or lodging; the employee’s duties require knowledge acquired through specialized intellectual instruction beyond high school; the employee is a teacher within an educational establishment; the employee is employed in the fields of computer systems analysis, programming, or software engineering; the employee is a “creative” professional who is involved in original or creative work in a recognized field that demands the talent of the individual; the employee’s work requires the individual’s judgment; the employee’s work cannot be standardized.  Examples include employment in accounting, engineering, teaching, architecture, medicine (certified medical technologist, registered nurse, dental hygienist, physician assistant), the practice of law (but not most paralegals), computer systems analysts, and programmers.
