Labor Wages
The Fair Labor Standards Act
(FLSA) requires that employers pay their employees a minimum wage. Prior to 1991, the minimum wage was
$4.25 per hour; in 1996, it rose to $4.75. The current federal minimum wage is $7.25. States may implement their own minimum
wage as long as it is higher than the one implemented by the federal
government. Texas has not
exercised this power.
